Lanier Soccer Academy is where players grow, compete, and build a lifelong love for the game.Pathway
Lanier Soccer Academy is built on a clear player pathway that starts with our Recreational Program and progresses into our Competitive Academy. Players begin in the rec league, where they learn the fundamentals of the game, build confidence, and develop a love for soccer in a fun environment. As players grow and show readiness, they have the opportunity to move into our competitive programs, where training becomes more structured and challenging. This pathway allows every player to develop at their own pace while providing opportunities to advance and compete at higher levels within the same club.
Rec vs Competitive
The main difference between Recreational and Competitive soccer at LSA is the level of commitment, training intensity, and competition. Recreational soccer is designed for players who want to learn the game, have fun, and play in a more relaxed environment with typically one to two practices per week and local games. It focuses on fundamentals, participation, and enjoyment.
Competitive soccer, on the other hand, is for players seeking a higher level of development and commitment. Training is more frequent and structured, with an emphasis on advanced skills, tactical understanding, and performance. Teams compete in leagues and tournaments, and players are expected to show dedication, consistency, and a strong work ethic.
behind the scenes playbook
🏆 Level of Competition
Each league (MLS Tier, SCCL, NAL, UPSL) has a different level:
Some are local/regional development leagues
Others are highly competitive, travel-based leagues
👉 Your child’s team is placed where they can be challenged but still develop
🚗 Travel Expectations
Recreational = mostly local
Competitive = travel can range from local to regional (sometimes out of state)
👉 Important for time and cost planning
📅 Season Structure
Fall & Spring seasons
Games usually on weekends
Some leagues include showcase events or tournaments
⏱️ Time Commitment
Higher leagues = more training + games
Expect multiple practices per week at competitive level
🎯 Exposure Opportunities
Leagues like MLS Tier, NAL, and UPSL can provide:
College scouting exposure
Higher-level competition
👉 Not guaranteed, but it opens doors
📊 Promotion & Movement
Players and teams can move between levels based on development
👉 It’s a fluid pathway, not fixed
💬 Communication & Expectations
Coaches will set expectations for:
Playing time (not always equal in competitive)
Attendance and commitment
Team roles
🧠 Bottom line
Each league is a different “gear” ⚙️
LSA uses them to make sure players are always:
